This is funny... kind of. At the Australian Open a guy was caught taking photos up the skirts of patrons, then went back to the Youth Hostel and held a handcam over the shower cubicles of female guests. This sort of thing happens quite a bit in Japan, but I've never heard of it happening overseas. Read on:

Wow what an idiot. What are the laws about this in Japan? I saw a bunch of people doing this in one of the photos of a girl on this forum in broad daylight. She didn't seem too concerned though.

I'm not surprised that the culprit is a Japanese student. By the way, the report says that he had taken pictures of a female tennis player as well. Wonder who she is? Maria Sharapova?

He positioned the camera under the woman's skirt and took a photograph between her legs, obtaining a picture of her genital area.

Actually it's all over melbournes news. 2 people have been arrested in the last month over taking pictures of women. One of them took pictures in the city for the last 4 years using a hidden camera in his shoe. Over 300 victims i think. Then later the japanese one was arrested because took pictures of a british tourist in the shower and so the people at the hotel all grabed him until the police arrived. They found later that he also had pics of the Australian open.

The guy deserved to get busted, though two months prison is a pretty severe sentence considering the guy was a blubbering mess and they could deport him anyway. People get totally suspended prison sentences for much more, and if when there's mob violence the police don't arrest anyone at all. Judge said the sentence was severe because he wanted to send a message. Probably not a good idea to be the third person arrested for a new crime in a week!

All over Google! None of the articles name the player he targeted. They said the 'camera had a special feature that allowed him to video up skirts'. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,21119574-2862,00.html

Wonder what the penalty is for being busted doing that in Japan? Heck man.
Get it off the Internet like everyone else! ;-) But check this out... from Japan too: http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/hardware/soa/Peeping_Tom_filter_lets_phones_see_through_bikinis/0,130061702,139164172,00.htm

A lady I know told me when she was backpacking Japan with a girlfriend she once stayed in a hostel where the owner had installed a one-way mirror into the womens bathroom. She said she heard noise and complained to the police. The owner's father was the mayor, so the police told her to get out of town. (No idea what the truth of this story is.)
