People who owns an iPod, can you tell me... what do you think about the quality of it? Does the battery life last long (not how many hours, how many years), does the battery die fast? Does the iPod freezes sometimes? Does the iPod software just slows down after a few weeks of purchase?

Because from my experience... I had 3 replacements for my damn iPod (30GB 5th Gen), and the iPod still has a lot of problems. But my friend's iPod (30GB 5th Gen) has no problem what so ever.

I don't drop my iPod, I don't bend it... I take good care of it, still, quality is crappy as hell. While my friends' iPods are just working perfectly fine.

So iPod owners, tell me what you think about the quality of your iPod.
I'm buying a new one today.

After 2 hours..:crash:

Just came back from BestBuy, after 2 hours of suffering in my mind, I got a 30GB 5.1 Gen iPod white. I also checked out the 2nd Gen nano, now heres something I noticed:

When I play some music on a 30/80 GB iPod, then while playing it, I switched menus, I noticed that it slows down and stops for a while then frame skipped to another menu.

While the 2nd Gen nano, I played the music and switched menus while playing music, it does not freeze or frame skips, it just go very smooth when switching menus. :bingo:

And i heard people say that iPod's battery is designed to die in 3 years.. is that true? :...:

lol. didnt you see the iPhone keynote address not too long ago? Im sure youve heard all about the news of the touch screen and full screen and blah blah blah. Apple will most DEFINITELY release a full screen video ipod in the near NEAR future. your ipod just became obsolete

The battery life rumor or whatever is probably true. You can always go on ebay and find a battery replacement kit. By then your warranty for the ipod should be over anyways unless you picked up an AppleCare warranty too.

about your iphone thing, do you knoe that it cost 250 for the actually cost to make an iphone, while others are all tax money? with 2 years of contract, thats pretty ripe off, and not much can afford that.

So im happy with my ipod. for now.:nice:

I never understood why people would suffer through using an iPod- the hardware isn't that great, the sound sucks, and they're expensive for their features and capacity.

Then I tried using the alternatives w/my Palm Tungsten E3. Argh.

It's the software on the PC that makes it worthwhile. However, I don't like the sound quality on mp3's period. I like listening to music that has a lot of dynamic range- Copland, Bach, Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Lionel Hampton, you get the idea, and the compression process destroys the music, even at 320 bps and 48KHz sampling.

iPod is alright I suppose, but it's extremely limited.

Rio Carbon

Best mp3 player i've come across. Supports ogg, mp3, no drm bullshit and of course it plays audio files that you just drag and drop onto it like an external drive. no iTunes conversion crap. Plays music and does so well.

Other than that, PSP > iPod.

All this talk about widescreen iPods and all: it's meant for music. I have a 30 gig Video, and I've watched like 2 episodes on it in one year time. For music it's great though: good navigation, easy and stylish, and I it's an Apple(atleast for me a good thing).

I bought my ipod about 4 years ago and its still working. But there is so many problems with it. Like switching songs on it's own, going to the menu, slow start up and the worst part is that the batteries only last for 3 hours or something.

I don't know about the new ipods but the old ones break down too quickly. Nearly all my friends that bought one has switch mp3 players to iriver.

I own a second generation iPod, 20 gigabyte HD. I have since replaced the battery with a much stronger one. My iPod originally came with a 1300 mA battery, I replace it with a 2000 mA.

I was pissed with Apple because initially they would not replace the battery but offered a $50 credit toward the purchase of a new iPod instead !!! They were saying that when it died you'll need a new one !! So in a way they said iPods are meant to be disposable ?

I would NEVER buy another iPod.

The mp3 players by iriver are actually DRM free. Id rather go for an alternative like that especially if youre not buying an music or shows off the iTMS or anything else out there. If youve already purchased songs from iTMS you can always use software out there to strip the DRM. Exercise your fair rights :evillaugh:

ipod with the older headphones works great... I read that with the new generation ipods the headset that comes with it isn't of good quality... battery life depends on usage...

There's a case where ppl would buy electronic merchandise then they take it home and replace it with the same item except it's used previously and then repackage it and returned to the store for refund or exchange it with a whole new one. This is done mostly at Best Buy and Circuit City. You might be the victim of this case a very unlucky victim to be having 3 crapped out iPods. I have a black 60GB video iPod for about a half a year now and it works fine, never crapped out on me yet.

The most recent news was a couple bought a camcorder and when they got home and opened it, there was a jar of spaghetti sauce instead of a camcorder......lol, and what sucks is that the couple didn't get their money back.:evillaugh:

My best guesses are manufacturer faulty... i got the Ipod Nano 2gb and it's battery works just fine. It lasted me more than 10 hours of music non-stop!!

Most Ipod users will experience the same battery problems that other MP3/PMP/Laptop/Netbook/Games Console users will face. Mainly due to the fact that Lithium Ion based batteries tend to ruin down pretty easily. Due to the constant charging and recharging of them. Since that wears down the battery overtime. The remady change the battery pack, but if you have a Ipod you would have to either send it back to Apple or take it to a mod store to get it swapped out.

Most users will recharge the battery when they see the battery icon start to blink or has 1 bar left, which is a serious mistake! Since this will actually shorten the lifespan of your battery faster. A tip for all portable MP3/PMP/Laptop/Netbook/Videogames console users drain your battery before charging it. :nice:

As for the quality of the Ipod product line in general, I read some mixed feedback from other users about it. Most problems tend to be linked back to the actual Ipod's OS design.
