So I've d/l'ed a couple of torrents and their respective files and a couple of them I am having problems viewing. I use VideoLAN almost exclusively and it's been great, but for these files VideoLAN gets an error when opening. The files look like standard AVI format. Should I try a different program? Any help would be most appreciated.
The error I get in VideoLAN is "Can't open c:\..."
Thanks!

if it's AVI format it should open... more then likely it's a real media video which is why you can't open it... try using media classic or either gomplayer... do a search on goggle.com and you'll be able to download these softwares...
before you start downloading first check to see if the files are not corrupted... if it's the only videos you are having problems with then most likely it's not a player issue but more of a file problem... hope this helps.. right click on the file click on properties there you can see what type of file you are trying to open ... if you want, make media player classic the default player for this type of flie... happy viewing...

Also consider getting a program called "GSpot" (yes, that's really its name). It can tell you all kind of useful info about a video such as the video or audio codec use, etc.

Thanks for the pointers but I got VideoLAN to work. I just renamed the folder and the file without the kana script and the AVI files opened just fine. I will check out some of those other players for Real Media files though. Thx.
