There was an article in the NYTimes today about beauty pageants for the immigrant population in New York City. Particular attention was paid to the Miss New York Chinese competition. Check out the article and the audio commentary of this gorgeous event :full:

the finalists of the contest practiced for months together in Flushing, Queens - of course they needed a dance instructor~

some of the girls crash at a lady's house in Queens during the pageant training

Ms. Chao is the pageant's image consultant and lets the girls stay at her house

it would suck to have all these girls wearing fancy dresses parading around the house all the time

some of these girls are so skinny, when they turn sideways you can't even see them! They have a profile as slim as a credit card. If they weren't so gorgeous, I really wish they'd change their diet and exercise habits so they'd have a little bit healthier BMI. My favorites are the girls turned so that you can't see their numbers - but they're all winners in my eyes. :whistle:

Yes Avadavat I agree with you. A lot of the Chinese models are skinny, but have no muscle. Unfortunately they have less curves. But hey, it's my hobby.

I love those stern straight-faced expressions on the guys. Yes, this is a very serious bikini show and these guys are professionals :hero: no display of emotion from them. Heaven forbid! Just keep sucking in those guts. How long can they hold that pose?

Some of the ladies' shoes were really inappropriate for bikini contests - they were so solid and block-shaped like a middle-aged flight attendant or school teacher's shoes. A little bit distracting on what otherwise are totally beautiful girls. The lack of a curvy ass is something we'll have to accept. They've got everything else we're looking for in a pretty girl.

imagine you're a foreign tourist in China taking a summer riverboat tour. would you expect to see a bevy of bikini girls touring around in boats? Well, in China, I guess anything's possible...

it's the Miss Tourism Queen International competition in Zhejiang Province - 2007! :whistle:
