View Full Version : The two networks with the most JAV sharers and files

On Dec. 21st, the Recording Industry Association of Japan released their annual report on file-sharing software usage in Japan (http://www.riaj.or.jp/release/2007/pr071221.html). WinMX continues to be the most popular file sharing client in Japan among heavy users and especially for the sharing of JAV. The survey found that Japanese users downloaded an average of 120 adult files per year using WinMX, 52 using BitTorrent and 44 using Share.
For a long time, I thought that WinMX had the most JAV of any network, but as I have noted in other threads, I recently discovered OpenNap, and I think it has WinMX beat. On Zerosen, the largest OpenNap server in Japan, there are around 8 millions files, 2 petabytes of data much of which is JAV. This beats WinMX, and dwarfs what is available on networks like BitTorrent and eMule where most of the users are English, European or Chinese rather than Japanese.
Lately, I've been getting a lot of PMs from SLF members looking for rare JAV files. I was wondering if it would be possible to sticky FAQs on WinMX and OpenNap to the top of EE Video Torrents subforum, so that I could point people there rather than having to explain the same things over and over. Japan is sort of the mother load when it comes to JAV, so it is kind of a shame that everyone here is missing out.
I've made three copies of the WinMX FAQ, and placed them at the beginning of the WinMX links threads in EE Video Torrents (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=14919), SS Video Torrents and BB Video Torrents. They bounce up and down depending on when my last post was. I've created a new thread called OpenNap and Utatane and the FAQ (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=17517) is the first post there. Some of us have been discussing OpenNap in a thread in Idle Chatter called Where Japanese scan and av collectors gather (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=16958), but there is no need to sticky this.

I am having to field a lot of PMs lately from SLF members looking for rare JAV files. I am wondering if it would be possible to sticky FAQs on the networks with the most JAV sharers (WinMX) and most JAV files (OpenNap) to the top of EE Video Torrents subforum or somewhere. It would make it a lot easier for people to find this info.
Do pardon me for not being dim-witted fuurinkazan, but I'm not quite following you on this one.
Care to explain a little more? FAQ such as...?

Sorry, fylth, you caught me while I was still editing that post. Does the final version answer your question?

Sorry about that fuurinkazan dude, I didn't mean to so rude and just butt-in like that.
But anyways... Thanks for the additional info + PM.
Also... Thanks for providing such great alternatives dude! You the man!!!

No problem, fylth. Do you happen to know who is in charge of stickying for EE Video Torrents? The two FAQs have already fallen off the first page at EE Video Torrents. Is there a better place to post them?

Give us(Mods) a little time to discuss about it first, ok. We'll let you know our "sticky decision".:bingo:

I'm partially guilty for pushing your FAQs off the first page, I'm sorry about that bro. Not sure about having a better place to post them though.
But I suppose letting The Mods to chat over it for a bit is the only thing that can be done for the time being.
Also... Another thing I would like to note since this topic is somewhat related to it. I would think that it would be a very good idea to open up an alternative download sub-forum as an addition to the already existing Torrents & Direct Downloads sub-forums.
These sub-forums would then be sorted according to their specific niche e.g. WinMX, eMule, OpenNap, UseNet & others. The only problem and possibly the biggest hole in this proposition is that there isn't enough contributors in these sub-forums to keep it going/sustainable. Although I am aware that there are a number of us in here that uses these networks.
What do you guys think?

siewaun has been kind enough to sticky the WinMX (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=14919) and OpenNap and Utatane FAQs (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=17517).

I certainly have nothing against people posting to EE Video Torrents, fylth. The more posts the better, just so long as people can find the FAQs easily.
I understand how you feel about wanting to have separate channels for each client, but I guess the main reason for all these bittorrent channels is because bittorrent clients have no central search engine, so you have to rely on forums like this just to find the files. Utatane, WinMX, Share, eMule and such have good internal search engines, so it is easier to find what you are looking for just by typing in the title or product #, and hitting Search. There are obviously thousands of people who download JAV using these other clients, but it is true that they are less visible on forums like SLF.
Perhaps Scanlover doesn't want to create too many subforums because it becomes more work to maintain, and the more headings you have on the front page, the harder it becomes to find things. On the other hand, having this whole section called Torrents is a bit misleading, so perhaps it should be renamed peer-to-peer or file-sharing clients, just to make it clear that there are other things besides torrents here.

Haha...! Congratulations bro! ._.
Way to go!

I very much doubt that this is the case, I think it's more of what I've mentioned earlier. Demand & Supply, when there's no such demand (or in this case, rather insignificant, which is unfortunately sad), there's not much point in setting up such a sub-forum.
But then again, this is just my take on the matter and it'll be great if The Mods themselves could provide us some feedback regarding the matter rather than just the two of us beating around the bush here. XD
On the other hand, having this whole section called Torrents is a bit misleading, so perhaps it should be renamed peer-to-peer or file-sharing clients, just to make it clear that there are other things besides torrents here.
Again, I'm with you on this bro but the problem as I've mentioned above still prevails as torrents are still the main medium of download in that sub-forum hence the title.
For example, the Direct Downloads sub-forum a.k.a. Scanlover's Theater has got a sub-forum on it's own simply because... Well, I mean just take a look at it man, it's booming like mushrooms after a storm.
It'll be real cool to have a sub-forum where all these Alternative P2P/File-Sharing Networks could be piled into for the time being. Each network could then have a thread of their own.

It's pretty quiet in here, isn't it? I think Scanlover and Dyka are too busy downloading torrents, and Ryuuga and siewaun downloading from rapidshare to even take time to look at this thread.

hey, come on mate, how do you know that none of the staff has read this thread? :full:
Give the rest of the staff a bit of time to discuss over this. After all siewaun did help you out in sticking those threads :bingo:
As to why the one in Idle Chatter hasn't been stickied, I would believe it's coz' any queries can be done in the two other threads. After all the Idle chatter sub-forum is for threads which do not fit in other of the other relevant threads :full:
As to why there isn't a sub-forum for other sources...
Fylth has already pointed out a couple of good points - those being a matter of demand and supply as well as the number of contributors that are around to maintain those alternate sources.
Like even till now, Fylth is still the sole contributor of ED2K links. And I'm sure it's no easy task to do so. Hence, we've stickied his thread in light of the hard work that he has invested into maintaining the thread
We also strive to keep the forum layout as neat as possible
In any case your suggestions have been noted.
We'll just wait for the other staff to give their input on this
Cheers

ehreek, thanks for responding. I am of course grateful to siewaun for stickying the two FAQs, and I didn't mean to imply that the Idle Chatter thread should be stickied. Basically, I'm pretty satisfied now that the FAQs are pinned.
I didn't mean any offense with my crack about all the mods being too busy. Siewaun mentioned to me that he had discussed this question with other staff. I was just trying to cheer fylth up with a bit of humour.
I've contributed a link or two to the eMule thread, and scanlover and poochy have both stated that they are eMule users. I understand what you are saying about keeping a neat layout, but I guess fylth is hoping that if these alternative networks are featured more prominently it will attract more contributors. BitTorrent hosts only a relatively small selection of all the JAV available, and I've heard many SLF members complaining that their ISP's throttle BitTorrent's bandwidth, so it is kind of a shame that people don't try these other networks. OpenNap in particular is a gold mine once you get it working: lightning fast and with by far the widest selection of any network.
