So I see we have them now. This is a handy feature. Is there an official explanation anywhere regarding their use?
Also, is there any chance that old locked threads can be tagged? For example, Mihiro has old threads. Tags would be really handy on those.
Can I encourage people to add relevant tags to as many threads as possible. First, names then companies, features etc. It would be good if we had some suggested tags. e.g. "natural breasts" could be great or controversial. Maybe "big breasts" but who decides?
I also noted that I can add 2 tags. Does that fill it up or can others add 2 as well? And how is it calculated. On some I can add 5, others 1.
Some other things to consider:
Putting the name in order: Matsugane Yoko or Yoko Matsugane?
Date of birth: an agreed format dob1980, 1980, 23/10/1980?

I can give you some info on tagging.
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1450765&postcount=3
I'm assuming tagging here works like any other site that uses tags so I don't think much of an explanation is needed and since some people have already started using tags on their posts. If you go to Search, then click on Tag Search, you can see the search tag cloud that has been created. I wouldn't suggest just going through threads and adding tags, but if you are looking at some pics and you want to add a tag to the thread, then go ahead. Old threads can be tagged but you may need assistance with that. And I already see people using dob1980 as the format for a date of birth tag so go with that if you want to use that format for date of birth.
For those who never used tags before, I use tags within Flickr. The trick is to use terms that are relevant to the subject matter and common to other people so others can find the subject that you've tagged and any other related/relevant subjects such as a name or dob1980 for the date of birth. You want to avoid using terms that are off the wall or uncommon because other people will most likely not use that term for their tags.

Thank you very much Chengku for your ideas. to me they make a lot of sense.
I would like to see a bit more input here from other member's as to how we tag. Once we have some ideas as to how member's would like the tag format to be, I along with the other Staff Members could then edit out any useless tags.
We can leave the debate open for a couple of weeks from now, then the Admins could decide the policy of the tag feature.

Cheers Candyman. I just got a pm from tamsalter and so I will sit back and be patient.
I have added a lot of tags already myself. I know how they work but I was wondering if there was a way SLF wanted them to work. I did not want to add tags only to be told not to do it that way.

How about we come up with an official "recommended" tag list, to avoid excessive clutter of tag space
For example: ass, hips & butt are similar tags, we could just standadize and agree to use "ass"
When using the tag search the auto complete kicks in, so for names, perhaps it wouldnt be too difficult to just tag twice: "yuko ogura, ogura yuko"
Other useful tags might be the genre, we can come up with a list
"teen,mature,amateur,celebrity,breasts,large breasts,small breasts,bondage,cosplay" etc
I'm not too sure how useful it would be to tag birthdates or non-english tags

I agree with you completely Boss. Maybe get some ideas from the member's, then draw up an official tag list and rules of tagging. Chengku's has hit the right notes with his suggestions.

I think standardised is a good idea. It can avoid doubling up a concept. "Busty" for example may be a good choice. I think they have to be useful. So I added "girigiri" because it is something people will have a thing for. If you have a suggested list, it may take the guess work out of adding tags.
I think birthdates are useful as a way of encouraging people to find out some bio on a model and avoid posting underage girls. If you find out that a girl is born in 1989, then you know she is legit. Alternatively, if someone just ups a thread (as they are want to do) without a dob, then it could be a flag to check it out.
Ditto, if you like them older, then dob could be the thing for you. Say models born in the 70s.
For me, it is also a wake up call about the model. Some have been around forever yet they are only born in 1985. Some are recent yet born in 1980. I guess for example if you were thinking of posting some Yoko Mitsuya pictures then you might realise that she is 16 in them. With junior models moving up into gravure then it is a heads up that the girl was 13 or whatever when the shots were taken.
I like the idea of non English tags because I often find a good model on a Chinese site. If she was able to be searched for here then I can see the sets uploaded to see whether the zip is worth downloading. All I need to do is copy the name and enter it into a tag search. At present, I don't think Kanji names work in regular searches.
Thanks to everyone for adding useful ideas and opinions.
Standardising tags is a good idea but there are bound to be practical issues like interpretation, spelling, etc.. For JAVs, maybe the use of the associated tags like those use on DMM and respective studios may help but then again, how many will refer to these before posting, assuming they can read Japanese. Aslo how about multi-posts in one thread because mostly the "tag" is attached to the thread level and not the post level.
I can point out some practical issues but really has no meaningful solution at the moment.

You have made a very good observation about tagging in multi-post threads xnd. This is something else we will have to look at.

Is it possible to enable adding/editing tags for closed threads?

Hmm..I don't think it's possible. I checked the system, once the thread is closed, the members (even the thread starter himself) won't be able to edit their messages including the tags. I guess this is an automatic system for the vb forum. Something similar to a crime scene where the citizen (normal members) cannot touch the evidences, only the police officer (the mods) can move around the stuff on the crime scene. :evillaugh:
Anyway, you can always ask the mod to edit the tags for you if there's a need.:full:

...
...makes not much sense, at least in the BT section
it's better when users are able to add tags to the thread after weeks/months,
the tag search works sometimes better
if you search for a special movie id, title or just tags like 'breast' or 'lesbian'
(and YES I KNOW:
in most cases you will be able to find 'lesbian' within a 'within post search',
but that kind of search is more capacity extensive to the servers
(as written by someone else in another thread),
so it would be far better
if a user who found a 'lesbian' movie
would be able to tag the thread 'lesbian' even months afterwards.
As i did show with 55 movies of Nao Ayukawa BT
Nao Ayukawa - Mega-Pack - 55 Vids (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=30231) ,
this seed is now working for over 6 Months,
others maybe now active since 1-2 YEARS ...
so why the heck shut every thing down? :distressed:
This "method" (*LOL*) simply 'calms' (still) active seeds... :...:

I guess you point to:
closed thread = no tag setting possible (anymore)? :...:
But 'wouldn't it be nice?' (Brian Wilson mode) :bingo:
...and maybe there's alread a vbulletin (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/index.php) forum software hack
(i've heard there are 1000s)
that allows to tag indepently from 'closed thread'?

Since the major vbulletin upgrade that allowed for tagging which was a long, long time ago, I haven't seen anyone request to have a tag added to a closed thread since all most threads need is a tag for the name of the idol or model.
Plus with how long these threads are open, there's plenty of time to add appropriate tags.
Plus you can always ask a mod to add a tag to a thread. So no need for a forum hack.
