Apparently, in Taiwan, growing betel nuts is illegal, and most of the stands have no license. There is also a 'three no's policy' prohibiting the girls from revealing their bellies, breasts or buttocks (meaning pubic hair is OK(?)). The police don't seem to enforce these laws too vigorously though. Would you?

Betel nuts are nasty...Taiwan is my home-country and I've eaten it...it tastes like shit! It's the equivalent of chewing tobacco...but the juice is bright red, like blood, and you have to spit it out..but the betel nut girls are good to look at while driving...or not

I lived in Taiwan for 6 yrs, and met some very pretty betelnut girls(pilon girls) and if u can speak chinese, they may be available for other activities. you will not find them in Taipei, as betelnuts are banned from Taipei. But there are many in the Taipei suburbs.

according to a friend of mine who have been living for quite some time in taiwan, its quite dangerous to take pictures of these girls as there are gangsters who watch over the place.

so what he managed to show us before was just some blurry images which he took when he was on a bus passing those places

but like many have mentioned it would be great to pass by sometimes just to see, perhaps find a beautiful babe and buy some betel nuts while having a chat as they will have to bend over :evil:

A previous exhibition a few years ago showed betel nut girls at their worst and helped further the perception that they are too young, abused, and of poor health. Tobie's exhibition shows that the girls are actually adult enough to know what they are doing and dressing sexily to sell a product is little different from what pop stars do in the music business these days :whistle:

I read about the "Betel Nut Beauties" reading up on Taiwan before I got there. I went there with my then fiance, so I stayed in a hostel with a bunch of expats while she stayed at her aunts house. I night i walked the streets of Taipei looking for the sexy allure of neon. Oh too often the booths were staffed by old men and ladies. I guess there must be a prime time and location as well.

BTW back in 2002 the Hostel was filled with English speaking slackers, some with just high school degrees who went there to teach English. They got way too much action from the local girls and indigenous beauties. I saw one inbred idiot show up without a clue and within 24 hours he had a job and girlfriend! I even found this guy somewhat repulsive.

BTW I stayed here:http://www.taipeihostel.com/ which was seedy but safe and relatively clean. It has a teaching links to read.

All growing of betel nut is not illegal there. It is only the stuff grown in environmentally sensitive areas. I've seen acres of the trees the things grow on as very obvious crops. I wouldn't just hop into one and start grabbing nuts though, you'd probably get chopped up and made into buns.

Also, I've been to every corner of Taiwan and never saw more than a couple of visible thongs. The betel nut girls don't just come hopping out of the booths with their tits hanging out like this thread shows. Those incidents are surely staged for the camera.

I have definitely seen some very hot betel nut girls. I think in general there are a shitload of boner-worthy girls in Taiwan.

Finally, the betel nut tastes like shit, makes you dizzy, stains your teeth, and, best of all, your spit from it looks like blood. The hot betel nut girls work great as marketing because the wives of the dudes that use won't get anywhere near them.

Let me tell you, these pictures represent a very telling difference in my experience with Betel Nut stands. I am well aware of this legacy, and have seen a few sexy Betel Nut ladies in Nantou, but I have lived in Taipei and Taipei County. In Taipei, I think Betel Nuts are totally banned. In the county, however, most of these shops are run by 30 year old men and ugly old women these days, with some exceptions... And they are rarely dressed quite as you see in these pics.
It's a good thing, too. Although I realize we're objectifying women as I speak, I think that the Betel Nut girls set Taiwan, a rather civilized country and full-blown democracy, back several years in terms of gender equality. If you want hookers, however... Taipei City voted to create a legal red light district to open about 6 months from now..:shiver:. I for one hope they change their minds.
