I'm afraid to buy another playstation system, and I'll tell you why.......
I've bought three PS2's so far...yes "three" why? well it seems that god don't want me to own a PS2 because for some odd reason all my PS2 dies on me and that's even when I'm not even playing the damn machine. I thought to my self am I just getting the defective PS2 three times in a row? and then I remembered an article on a magazine, I can't remember which mag it was (EGM or game pro) the article was about a comment made by the RE creator, he said that SONY is making faulty PS2s that breaks down often in a year or so cuz of sloppy craftsmenship to make ppl buy another one. At first I laughed at his comment and just blew it off (this was when I had my "first" PS2 for almost a year) after about 8 months passed by my PS2 stopped reading my PS1 discs and started to freeze on me. so I ignored it thinking it might be just dusty. On a bright sunny day I was watching TV and I heard a loud POP from the PS2 and it just died right there. That was my first PS2's death, a death without a cause, I called the SONY corperation about my PS2 and they told me that they don't cover warranties for my PS2 because....sit down for this one folks, "act of GOD" yes, ACT OF GOD!.....those are the exact words they used. I just hung up and looked at my boy friend in awe, I didn't have any comment for that remark.

My 2nd PS2 just stopped turning on after about a year, and my 3rd PS2 died when my little 4 year old niece tripped over the control cord and pulled the PS2 (which was sitting on a snack table that's 3 inches off the ground) off the table on to my new fluffy carpet. All I can say is thank god for BEST BUY with their 1 or 2 year warranty where you gotta pay like 10 bucks and you can return the damaged console without question.

I still have my first XBOX ever since it came out, never skipped/frozed or denied my DVDs from playing it. Maybe I'm not supposed to have a PS2. (PS2 would cease to exist if Final Fantasy/Metal Gear were to leave sony) it's because of those two games is why I keep buying PS2...and as for upcoming PS3...I'm not gonna shell out $600+ dollars for a system that's not that far from being better than Xbox 360 (which is sad for sony and nintendo to compare their "3rd" console with microsoft's "2nd" console, which is xbox 360) I can just imagine what microsoft's 3rd console in the future would be like, it's gonna rock I tell you that much, besides......if PS3 does the same crap to me as the PS2 did, I'm killing someone at Sony. I'll stick with my Xbox & xbox 360.

I'll get PS3 when the price is somewhere around......cheap! lmfao. mean while I will however get Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PS3 cuz games don't stick around the store that long, not like consoles. Games come and go and when you want it you end up looking thru the "used" section at game stop. =) and I just HATE purchasing used games that looks like someone used it for a coaster.

I'd consider a 360 if they ever got some good games - FPS are not my idea of a good time. Now say, for example, Tecmo replaced their DOA women with actual gravure idols in the next DOA Extreme game, then the horny 13 year-old inside of me might pony up some money. The though of Yôko and Harumi playing that butt battle mini-game makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. In the right places.

Personally, I think the quality of Nintendo products tends to be better, but then again the selection is much more limited and a lot of more "adult" titles are unavailable. The main reason I bought a PS1 & 2 was just so I could play the Silent Hill games, for example. But I've grown up with the Nintendo line, and I have yet to be disappointed. Plus, the Wii just looks cool! ;)

The thing is, I wouldn't use my video game systems to watch movies, so that feature means nothing to me. I like to have dedicated players for each thing, to avoid unnecessary wear & tear. If I used my PS2 every time I wanted to watch a DVD, I'm sure it would have broken down by now.

yes it's true the FF7 is being remade, because it's the most popular FF title, The characters won't be "super deformed" like the original, it'll look close to the advant children design. I've heard rumors where this time they might let you have a choice of letting Tifa die instead of Aerith, but it's pure speculation at this point. As for FF8 being remade......I've never heard that before, but if they';re gonna do it then let them I wouldn't mind if they remade it, but I highly doubt it.

I just want a game console that plays "GAMES" PS3 supposed to be able to play "Blue Ray" discs, some ppl might like that, although BR discs costs twice as much as normal DVDs. From what i have read playstation 3 has a problem playing playstation 2 games... they are working on a patch right now to fix it so if you are out to get the ps3 right now I believe you won't be able to play the older games from what I gather... those who bought this or will be getting one tomorrow friday... kindly tell us if this is true or not.. thanks!

Final Fantasy 12 isn't an online game, you can play it in your PS2 by your self. I have one and it's hella kewl. The new Zelda for the Wii is called "TwilightPrincess"

I was heading towards the train station in San Francisco to get home from my college, and I was walking past the Metreon. It's a big movie theater that has a Sony store inside. Probably one of the biggest Sony stores in America. The place was a media circus. People having been in lines around the block for days to wait for the PS3 to come out. I was in this huge crowd. I came to circuit city on Thursday and saw a couple of tents outside the store already. PS3 is supposed to be better than XBox360, but I don't see a reason for me to desire one (except making some quick cash on eBay). The system and games' prices are high (about 60~70 bucks/title), game titles are limited, and I don't have a big-ass HDTV to accompany it. imho, aerith is a more valuable member to the team than tifa because:

* her final limit break, "great gospel" -- completely restores the party of hp and mp losses, negative status, and a good 10 - 15(??) seconds of invincibility

* as you may have known, a good rpg party will always need a good healer

* tifa is more of an attacker type of character, which i would say cloud, cid, and barret are much better in that role. tifa's "final heaven" is a decent attack, but cloud's "omnislash", cid's "highwind", and barret's "catastrophe" do way more damage

As for the motion senses, you do know technology like the motion sense isn't something that you can just "add." You may know that companies like Motorola, LG, or even Samsung have come up with similar design in the same time period.

As for the person who had 3 PS2 fail, I feel sorry to hear that. My xbox and ps2 hasn't had a single problem(got both during launch). Though my xbox has had some disc error reading... I hope that your luck changes for the better with the PS3, since you wouldn't want to miss out on MGS4 :p

Metroid Prime 3. The E3 demo of this is awesome. Definaltely a must for any shooter fans. Not out yet, its gonna be a 2007 release, better they take their time and make something great than just so-so.

I was planning on getting a PS3, but not right now. This first series have many bugs. Like not being compatable with previous games, but most have heard this already in the news since its release in Japan. Not sure when the second series of PS3's are gonna be made.

ahh.....no, microsoft did not copy Sony....first of all PS2 didn't have a built in HD when it was first released, but xbox did and therefore Sony copied microsoft in installing an HD on PS3.

As for motion sensor, I'm talking about in the controls for the game system, NOT the technology it self, Sony "added" the motion sensing capability to their control (not to mention replacing the boomerrang shaped controller with their original PS2 controller design scheme) at the last minute when they heard Nintendo had it in their console.

Whether you go for PS3 or 360 or nothing, everyone's getting one anyway! Wii is selling like crazy. Sold out in the UK since day dot! Likewise everywhere else in Europe I assume.

Aah, well, if VF5 is coming on to XBOX360, and with rumors of Metal Gear Solid 4 also making a release on the microsoft machine, then I'm sorry to say, no PS3 for me.

I doubt XBOX360 VF5 will have an online mode. The game is so notorious for its frame by frame accuracy, that even the slightest bit of lag will put off a serious gamer. I'm sure AM2 will have considered that.

i highly doubt sony would allow their ps3 to be region free. They're such a big advocate of DRM as it is. theres no way theyd allow games from one region of the world to work in another region. theres also the issue of PAL and NTSC. Though the DS does play both japanese and american games (i think).

In today's news these details have came up about the PS3.

Sony Corp. slashed the price of its current PlayStation 3 by $100, or 16.7 percent, and introduced a high-capacity model in an effort to spur sales of the struggling video game console.

Starting Monday, the current 60 gigabyte model will cost $499, down from $599.

The Japanese electronics maker also said it is introducing a new version of the PlayStation 3 with a bigger hard drive for storing downloaded content such as video games and high-definition movies.

The new PS3 increases the system's storage capacity to 80 gigabytes from 60 gigabytes and also includes a retail copy of the online racing title "MotorStorm," a company spokesman said. It will be priced at $599.

The larger capacity machine won't be available in the United States and Canada until August.

Again, just like my Vista post elsewhere, I can never understand why people rush into buying new kit without a decent software to support it. Moreover as 360 users have discovered some of the hardware (power packs in particular) are not very reliable (I read recently Microshite have ring-fenced almost a billion dollars to repair/update 360 consoles!)

But if people want to pay over the odd for an average machine (at the mo) then that's up to them. I'm happy with my PS2 and all the Platinum quality games that go with it

The price drop is only to clear out old stock (60GB version). If those are all gone, the price will rise to the normal figure again.

Europe will get a bundle; PS3 + 2 controllers (rumble?) + 2 games (Motor Storm and Call of Duty if I'm not mistaken).

I don't think it's over price looking at how awsome is the system and the graphic of the game it's all worth the money. If you're willing to spend money for a PS2 console with a fancy remote aka Wii then you would want a PS3. :P

I went to the Sony store yesterday because I want A HD DVD player for my new 46" LCD. For $500 you can buy a DVD/MP3 player, with high definition upconversion, or you can buy the PS3 with BluRay, no upconversion. Right now I think I will go with the PS3. At Fry's it comes with a mail in for 5 BluRay movies..

when it's all said and done I think ps3 will be remembered as the superior console out of this generation. innovative controls are cool, but in the end, it's all about the games, and ps has proven to be, at least in my eyes, the most creative.

gaming wise, ps3 is improving with every release, from September onwards, the titles released will make all those who say their titles are terrible compared to the 360 proven wrong.

I got the system and have played a lot of Resistance: Fall of Man. The game is awesome. I like running into rooms with big guns and blasting mobs of mutants.

I have also been playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It is very good game, especially on a large monitor. It can be a great time suck, but not as bad as WoW, where I lived for over a year and was so busy I didn't even have time for girlie pics.

The Blu ray movies are good, like 300 for instance, but I tend to disbelieve they are worth the added expense over regular HD or upconverted movies. But my TV is a Sony Bravia 46 inch 720 p.

And I can cruise this site on the console too! The pics look great, but the web pages look horrendous.

I think the reasons that the Wii is kicking so much ass is that it's tapping into different gaming markets, it's innovation, and it's price. But there aren't many good games that I am interested in playing and alot of the VC games are better than games actually designed for the Wii. My opinion of the PS3 has completely changed since TGS, but I'm still on the fence in purchasing one because games that would have been exclusive back in the day are now being made for other consoles to maximize profit. Plus I don't plan on buying any Blu-Ray movies. If the price is lowered some more and more exclusive titles come out for it, then I will probably get one. But right now I am cool with my X360 and GHIII comes out in a couple weeks so I can't wait.

I totally agree with Candyman about the Wii and PS3. Some of the games everyone is listing above is also on the 360 though (RE5, GTA4, ...). For this holiday season the 360 is the system to own in terms of exclusives (at least timed, some may appear on other systems later): Halo 3, Bioshock, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata (on PS3 later), Mass Effect. Not to mention the bad ass multiplatform stuff like Guitar Hero III or Rock Band, so 360 is really where it's at this year if you're interested in these games. So hopefully you don't have the RROD and are able to play these things... The bad thing about the 360.

But who knows who'll be king next year. I'm looking forward to MGS4, which is probably the game that will make me break down and buy a PS3. Sadly I doubt FFXIII will make it for '08. No idea what the 360 and Wii has in store. MS and N has really been keeping the focus on this year and revealing zip about next. Boo.

I just seen the news today that the 40GB PS3 that was released in the EU will be coming to North America for $399 in Nov. It lacks backwards compatibility, but who wants a next gen system to play old games? If I had the green and didn't have an X360 already and if MGS4 stays exclusive, I would get one.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting Sony to pull off another price cut so soon after their first one. So the 80gb is 500 (US) and the 40 gb is 400, but also missing some features like backward compat. w/ PS2. I guess no option for hardware emu. of PS2 any more unless you can find the 60 gb model (the 80 gb uses software emu). In any case, pretty nice drop from the 700 of about a year ago.

I haven't decided if I'll buy one this year yet. MGS4 is the closest must have exclusive for me. Everything else I want I can get on my 360. The Wii also some neat little games. The new Mario looks neat, and I need to catch up on Zelda. Maybe get Metroid too? Wii or PS3? Hmmm...

I was playing Oblivion for a long while, but I have gotten kinda bored and it seems to go on forever. That stupid monk won't let me save him, I am a vampire, and the quests just keep coming.
So I rented Heavenly sword. The red haired vixen Japanese girl running around in the snow with a fur bikini accompanied by her demented affectionate friend was fun for a few days, but I was kind of happy to return it. It was fun wading through and killing ridiculous numbers of opponents alone, but I am stuck trying to save my asshole Dad by shooting his attackers. He always dies and I just don't care anymore.
I want to try an air combat type game next, but I don't want to go online. Resistance-Fall of Man was a lot of fun, but I finished it 2x. Maybe I will try History Channel: Battle For the Pacific or Call of Duty 3.

I was hoping to get a deal on a PS3 this week but I haven't see any real deals yet. Amazon is doing this promotion (http://promotions.amazon.com/gp/holiday/amazon-customers-vote) where you can vote on the deal that you want and then randomly selected people who voted on the winning deal will be able to purchase it. I would have loved to get a PS3 for $139 but most people are voting for the Wii which I am still not thrilled with. Plus it will be alot cheaper than upgrading my computer.

I think in '08 the PS3 will do better since it now has the cheaper model out, some very big name games will be out next year, Microsoft is not that big in Japan, and because the PS3 online component is free. In Japan it's outselling the Wii right now. If I can't get a deal, I'll just wait until the hot stuff comes out next year.

I'd get the 360 before I get the PS3 because the 360's library is looking much better and it's more expansive. But, on the flip side, the PS3 has Creed.

I'm probably going to end up getting both consoles for college in the near future, though. :whistle:
