The Copyright Question
What can & cannot be posted in Scanlover Forum?
Scanlover has an ever growing list of approved and unapproved sites. Please refer to it here at THE OFFICIAL SLF COPYRIGHT POLICY (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=12641) page before you post.
The Scanlover mods are forever moving about the forum and will remove any unfit copyright material. You will receive a Private Message informing you of the removal.
Who do I contact if I am unsure of an image of video I want to post?
Scanlover Forum has set up a Copyright Authorization Desk (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=5514). All inquiries will be fielded and you will receive a reply ASAP. Some queries require a fair bit of research so please allow a bit of time for a reply before following up a second time.
Video queries can go to cyan, and scanning concerns go to OldiesLover.
If you are familiar with a Moderator that you see in your Scanlover visits, feel free to PM them. Any question they cannot answer they will forward to The Copyright Authorization mods.

The Role of Scanlover Moderators and Administrators
Who are the Scanlover Administrators and Moderators?
A complete list of current Scanlover Admin and Mods are available here (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=8367)
The Scanlover Council is based on a three tier system:
Administrators
Super Moderators
Scanlover's Goddesses (New to Scanlover Forum/Oct 2006)
What do the Moderators do?
Scanlover moderators are an extremely active group of selected members who monitor the forum. Scanlover Forum moderators have a "global" portfolio. That means no one moderator is responsible for any one sub-forum. Moderation responsiblity is spread thoughout the entire forum. Their role is to look for:
Inappropriate or illegal posts.
Encourage new and regular members with positive feedback.
Offer assistance when required.
Add, or embellish information to a previous post.
Many of our Moderators are very knowledgeable in their respective fields of interest.
What do the Administrators do?
There are 4 Scanlover Administrators and they handle the technical issues on the forum. Much of this is behind the scenes work that the majority of users won't see. We will see the results as the implementation affects the visible and practical functionality of the forum (i.e. plug-ins, templates, user options). Administrators also monitor the overall work of the moderators, ensuring that there is a unity of practice and intent throughout.
The four Scanlover Forum Administrators are:
Scanlover: Forum owner, creator, master and overlord/overseer and technical implementation & troubleshooting wizard. :grovel: :grovel: :grovel: :grovel:
Dyka Early, early Scanlover member responsible for moderators and technical implementation of the forums vBulletin.
OldiesLover: Well, you may not want to know about him. :evillaugh:
ryuuga: Works upon almost all Forum Issues... Big & Small. He is also a Well-Known Expert on Asian Idols of all kinds.
Who are Scanlover's Goddesses?
Scanlover Forum respects the copyright restrictions from all pay sites, as well as models and actresses from the America's and European countries. To avoid copyright infringement Scanlover Forum has set up a Public Relations Department (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=4255) to develop and implement promotional, advertising and public relations with high profile Asian models and actresses. Scanlover Goddesses are those models and actresses who have responded to our PR Department and have become members of Scanlover Forum. Scanlover Goddesses have a designated sub forum, and each Scanlover Goddess has their own thread of which they are active participants. Scanlover Goddesses have full Moderator abilities within this special and unique sub-forum
Why did my post count go down?
Moderators will remove posted replies that do not actually add to the thread. If a post is deleted, that members post count will go down. While "thank you" posts, or a reply to a picture of a particularly buxom girl might prompt an immediate reply of "nice tits:)", these post do not really lead to further discussion. They do not add to the thread topic. They will eventually be removed.
Why did I get a Private Message telling me my thread was moved?
Scanlover forum is set up to send a generic Private Message when a member’s post/thread has been moved by one of the moderators or administrators. You will be given the original posting sub-forum and the new location that it has been moved to. A move to the Graveyard means that it was deemed inappropriate, and will be looked at by other moderators before deletion or reinsertion back into the main forum. A move to Copyrighted Content means that the image went against Scanlover Forum's here (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=7101%5D%5BB%5Dcopyright%20infringement%20guidelines%5B/B%5D%5B/URL%5D.%5B*%5DMods%20will%20often%20send%20a%20Private%20Message%20offering%20added%20explanations%20for%20the%20moving%20of%20a%20thread%20from%20one%20forum%20to%20another.%20Scanlover%20Forum%20is%20very%20large%20and%20it%20is%20important%20to%20have%20consistency%20throughout.%20Do%20not%20be%20dismayed%20if%20a%20thread%20is%20moved;%20rather%20view%20it%20as%20a%20learning%20experience.%5B/LIST%5D%3Cbr%20/%3E%0A%5BB%5DWhen%20should%20I%20ask%20for%20moderator%20assistance?%5B/B%5D%5BLIST%5D%5B*%5DFeel%20free%20to%20ask%20for%20advice%20or%20assistance%20from%20any%20of%20the%20Scanlover%20Moderation%20team.%20A%20complete%20list%20of%20Scanlover%20moderators%20and%20administrators%20can%20be%20found%20%5BURL=%22http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=8367). All Scanlover moderators and administrators are members too. We are all very attached to this forum and love to assist others when asked. We're a pretty friendly bunch really :)

User Settings – How can I personalize Scanlover forum?
How do I get a picture under my username?
These small images are called Avatars. They are displayed below your username on all posts that you make.
You may insert your own Avatar by going to the User CP (http://forum.scanlover.com/index.php) link at the top left of the Scanlover Forum Index page. On the left side you will see a Control Panel with Edit Avatar listed. Open up the link. Click the radio button on the Custom Avatar section and fill in the necessary text boxes.
Note: The maximum size of your custom Avatar is 120 by 160 pixels. Moderators will ask you to resize any Avatar exceeding these limits.
What is the signature for?
You may set your own signature. A signature is a selection of text or image that you would like to inserted at the end of all your posts
You can set your signature by editing your profile by clicking on the User CP (http://forum.scanlover.com/index.php) link at the top left of the Scanlover Forum Index page.
Inserting an image into your signature will require the use of & code in the provided text box.
Note: Signature size is restricted to 565 by 160 pixels or smaller. Moderators will ask you to resize any signature exceeding these limits.
How do I send Private Message?
Private Messaging is a system that allows you to send messages to other members that can be read in the PM Inbox. You can also access your inbox by clicking on the link to the left of your avatar preview on the top of the page. Only members that register at Scanlover Forum can send private messages.
There are several ways to access your Private Message box and send a message to another Scanlover Forum member.
When viewing a post, you can immediately "PM" a member by left clicking on their user name and selecting "Send a private message to..." from the drop down menu. This method of pm'ing will automatically insert the members name in the Recipient Username(s): address text box.
You can also send a PM by going to the User CP (http://forum.scanlover.com/index.php) link at the top left of the Scanlover Forum Index page. On the left side you will see a Control Panel with Private Messages listed. Open up the link. You will need to know the name of the member you are sending to. An approximation is all you need, as a drop down menu will appear showing similar names once one is type in the text box.
The last method, which is very time consuming is to go to the Member List located on the Scanlover toolbar at the top any page and scroll until you find the name. Left clicking on the name will reveal the same options as method one.
How do I use smiley’s in my posts and Private Message?
Basic smiley's are available on the Scanlover Forum default settings.
Enhanced functionality can be gained by setting your Message Editor Interface settings to Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing
You can do this by editing your profile. Click on the User CP (http://forum.scanlover.com/index.php) link at the top left of the Scanlover Forum Index page.
Open up the Edit Options link in the Control Panel. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Full WYSIWYG Editing from the drop down menu
What's a buddy/ignore list?
The buddy list is used to keep track of your friends on Scanlover Forum. That is display by a ‘+’ symbol that appears next to your friend’s name on Currently Active Users in the sL-a forum index. When you add your friends to your buddy list you can send private messages to a group of friends at the same time (up to 5 at once). To add a friend, simply click on their username within a post and select ‘Add ... to your buddy list’ from the drop down menu.
Ignore lists are used to ignore those who you prefer not to bother with. When you add someone to your ignore list, those messages posted by that user will be hidden when you read a thread. You can add users to your ignore list by viewing their profile and selecting ‘Add ... to your ignore list’.
You can ignore anyone you choose except the staff.
What are the announcements?
Announcements are special messages posted by the Scanlover Forum Administration that show up above all the threads on every sub-forum. Most of these messages are rules within each sub-forum so you better take the time to read all the announcements to avoid getting in trouble. There are also occasional announcements that appear throughout sL-a - READ THEM! They have information regarding Scanlover Forum, news, and certain features that have been added on for your convenience.
Remember: these messages are to help you learn about how Scanlover Forum works and to help make the Scanlover Forum experience great for you and everyone else.
How do I rate a thread?
There is a small menu on thread pages which allows you to 'rate this thread' with a number between 1-5, 1 being the lowest rating and 5 being the best rating. Casting a vote for threads you view is entirely optional.
Once a rating has been cast for the thread, you will see a set of yellow stars that appear next to the title of the thread. These yellow stars reflect the average rating cast. Remember: ratings simply show what the group thinks of a thread, so don’t judge the book by it’s cover. Scanlover Forum does not allow spam or flaming, so every thread is worth reading even if your opinion is different from someone else’s ;) .
What are the various thread display modes?
When viewing a thread, you can view the thread from a choice of four modes.
Linear Mode (Oldest First) - In this mode, posts are displayed chronologically from old to new. Posts are shown in a flat mode so that all the posts within a thread can be viewed simultaneously.
Linear Mode (Newest First) - This is the same as the above mode, except that posts are ordered from new to old.
Threaded Mode - In this mode, a tree is shown along with every post. This tree allows you to see the relationship each post has to others, in terms of who responded to whom. Only one post is shown at a time.
Hybrid Mode - This mode is a mixture of the linear and threaded modes. The post tree is displayed like in the threaded mode, but multiple posts are displayed simultaneously like in the linear modes.
Scanlover Forum recommends you stick with the Linear Mode since it’s easier to navigate.

Downloading and Uploading Movies
What can be uploaded?
What Scanlover forums have movie links?
Primarily you will find video films [.avi, rm and mpeg] in the Scanlover Theater (http://forum.scanlover.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21) sub-forum.
Scanlover Theater is the only location on Scanlover Forum where movies links are to be posted.
Any film links posted anywhere else on Scanlover forum will either be removed or moved into Scanlover Theater. There are three exceptions: The Mature Wing has a section for mature film links, the Amature Zone allows for small amature video links and Scanlover's Goddesses for their videos.
Torrents are not to be posted in either Scanlover Theater. Scanlover Forum's torrent sections are EE Photo Torrents (http://forum.scanlover.com/forumdisplay.php?f=45), EE Video Torrents (http://forum.scanlover.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34), SS Photo Torrents (http://forum.scanlover.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33), SS Video Torrents (http://forum.scanlover.com/forumdisplay.php?f=42)
What are the best sites to upload films to?
This is not an easy question to answer. Each upload site has its benefits and shortcomings, and no one site is preferred by all members. Some sites better suit the uploader, others are preferred by downloaders. Some sites offer faster downloading speeds at the same time they offer smaller file sizes and restrictive time limits on downloading. Other upload sites offer large file sizes but have very restrictive access to certain countries (primarily South East Asia).
The general rule in Scanlover Forum is to allow the uploader to upload to any file host site they choose. A fairly common practice is for another member to re-upload a film to another file-host. This is an accepted method of making a file available to more members. Here is a list of the more popular upload sites used by most contributors of this forum:
YouSendIt: http://www.yousendit.com
TransferBigFiles: http://www.transferbigfiles.com
MegaUpload: http://www.megaupload.com
TurboUpload: http://www.turboupload.com
Rapidshare: http://rapidshare.com
SendSpace: http://www.sendspace.com
Megarotic: http://www.megarotic.com/ *formerly Sexuploader
BaDonGo: http://www.badongo.com
Why can’t I download a file? Two of the more popular Upload File Hosting sites are Megaupload and Megarotic(formerly Sexuploader). One of the main reasons members cannot download from them has to do with where they live. The quote below is from Megaupload's FAQ page:
The growing popularity of our service forced us to limit the number of concurrent connections from a few countries during peak hours. If you are affected by this policy, signing up for a Megaupload Premium account will solve that problem for you.
What this means is that they have exercised restrictive limit totals for an entire country. Many Asian countries are affected by this restriction. For instance the entire country of Indonesia will be restricted to 100 downloads at a time.
Megaupload and Megarotic will also limit the daily amount of downloads on all the free or guest accounts.
Rapid Share has intrusive time restrictions that prevent you from downloading too many files concurrently. They also have daily download limits.
All file hosting sites will expire a file after a certain amount of time. The exception is for files uploaded by Premium members. These files stay active for as long as the member has a premium account.
How do I join a file? There are several methods of joining a file. What's right for the file you've downloaded will depend on how it was split.
HJSplit is a tiny program that can split a file into any number of parts. This is extremely helpful to meet the file size restrictions of most free upload sites. The same program is needed to join the file. You can download HJSplit here (http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/). Once the program is installed, open it up, select Join and then open the folder that has you split files in. The joined file will appear as a new complete file in that file folder.
The upload site BaDonGo will split files and you will need to down load a very small file along with the film to join the files together.
On occasion you will come across multiple files of a single film. These files have been split using an .avi or mpeg splitting program [ex. Dynamix splits all their downloadable film this way]. An "avi joiner" search on the Internet will produce numerous programs that can put these film clips together again. It is a lengthy process, so be sure it is really what you want. Another way to view such films that does not require joining films together, but creates a seamless full-length film is to open up File in you media player and select (highlight) all the files then right-click to play. The entire film will play seamlessly.

No member will be allowed to link to sites that inturn pay them money when others visit and click on further links. SLF is not a link farm and any threads or posts that link to such sites will be removed and the poster will be warned with a private message.

How do I create polls and vote?
Some threads on Scanlover Forum have a section where you can vote. These threads are called 'polls'. Here’s how to create them:
To create a poll while posting a new thread, simply click the 'Post a poll within this thread' checkbox at the bottom of the page, and set the number of choices you want to include.
When you click the submit button, you will then be taken to the poll creation page, where you can specify the question and the list of choices you want.
Other members will then be able to vote for the choice they want, and the results of the voting will be displayed within the thread.
An example poll might be:
What is your favorite color?
Red
Blue
Yellow
Green
You may also want to specify a time limit for the poll, so that it only stays open for certain amount of time, ex: a week.
Voting in and viewing a poll.
To vote, simply select which choice you want to vote for, and click the [Vote!] button. You may view the current results for a poll by clicking the 'View Results' link.
Once you have voted, you will not be able to change your vote, so choose carefully!
What are attachments?
The attachment feature on Scanlover Forum gives you the ability to attach files to your posts. This could be an image, zip, rar file etc. There is a limit to the file size of any attachments you make but Scanlover Forum does prefer quality over quantity so the file size limits shouldn’t be an issue.
To attach a file, simply click the [Manage Attachments] when you write a post at the bottom of the page. A pop-up windows opens up with information on what files are accepted and their limits. Select the file you want to upload then, once you’re finished, upload the file. Scanlover Forum only accepts directly uploaded files..so no urls/Hotlinking - they will be deleted.
These are the valid file extensions for Scanlover Forum:
gif jpg mov mp3 mpg pdf png rar swf torrent wmv zip.
When you submit your post, the images you upload will be displayed as thumbnails. When uploading multiple images, please upload 5 at a time to keep sL-a organized. Also please give a description of what you upload for everyone. To view the attachment, simply click the link that appears next to the attachment icon.
What are message icons?
Message icons are symbols to accompany your title which is used to convey the emotion and help describe the content of a post or thread. These are located right below you where you type your message. sL-a encourages everyone to have a title for every thread and post they make.
How do I subscribe to a thread?
When you open up a thread you have the option of subscribing to it. Doing this will give you e-mail notification of any thread updates.
To subscribe:
Open up a thread link from the Sub-Forum
The tool bar just below the “Post Reply” button has a drop down menu called Thread Tools.
Click on the menu and select “Subscribe To This Thread”.
You will then be taken to your User CP - List Subscriptions page where you will be able to select notification option.
Click the “subscribe to thread” button…you’re done.
Appropriate use
If you have common sense, a hint of kindness, and a spot of decency, you will likely never even need to concern yourself with appropriate use. But on occasion, simple minded, thoughtless jerks stumble onto Scanlover Forum and the moderators will start issuing warnings about appropriate use. It usually means someone is over-stepping the boundaries of forum regulations, stepping on others sensibilities, or missing the point of what a forum is entirely.
A member will be reminded of appropriate use when:
Rude and/or thoughtless replies or comments are posted.
The stealing of others links and posting as their own are discovered.
Non-Asian models are posted or discussed on an ongoing basis.
Flaming or Spamming of posts occurs.
Flaming
Flaming is when messages posted are deliberately hostile and insulting. A flame is never intended to be constructive, it does not clarify a discussion, nor does it attempt to persuade others with any form of reason. Flaming is an hostile act. Moderators will stop flames immediately with a deletion of the post, and a stern warning explaining a continuance will lock the thread. Repeated flaming from a member will result in a ban.
Spamming
Spamming is the undesired posting of bulk messages.
When a member posts many short unimportant comments one after the other (like thanks, nice, great thread, love them tits...) they will be seen as spamming. The misdirected intent is usually to raise ones post count. This has little effect as moderators will delete these posts and send a warning to the member who is spamming. Scanlover Forum has a list of spammers here (http://forum.scanlover.com/showthread.php?t=6329&highlight=spammers). Try not get your self discussed on this sub-froum
