so back to your dilemma...the more expensive course probably requires you to do some sample teaching or live exercises and you get critiqued.

Now if your timing is also important if you want to teach in elementary, junior, or high schools. Remember the school year starts in April, so there's a hiring binge before April. There's another in the summer cuz, americans graduate around summer, I assume others countries do too, then around December. There will be small hirings in between, since some to people don't like the job or find something better and quit before their contract finishes, so companies are desperate to find replacements

If you work in private kids school or eikaiwas..also remember they most likely have work on Saturdays .so you can kiss your long weekend outings with GF goodbye or if you wanted to travel around. If they have several teachers, you can always switch around.

If I were you..and if you could stretch the truth..I'd do Business English Teaching..cuz it's more meaningful, higher pay, and shorter hours..but contracts are shorter and you need to get more classes if you want to make more money.

For me, If I teach 3 hours a day and that's almost the same as spending one working day 8-4 as an ALT, and have small classes 1-8 students..no dancing or singing, no kids giving you the 'kancho', no kids grabbing your nuts...no students sleeping..no girls asking you how to make their breasts bigger (kid you not I was asked this by some junior high girls)

On a good day I'll have 2 classes 4-5hours total, one in the morning, come back home for lunch..relax.do some shopping.play some video games....then go back out for my evening class...or just have morning or night only classes....free to futz around

We are all pervs anyways, decency has nothing to do with it. I know that some teachers have to teach Tuesday-Saturday, but that's the job I guess. I worked messed up schedules here in Canada for the last 4 years, sometimes I had to work Tuesday-Saturday, sometime I had to work sunday-thursday. I'm aware of working strange hrs, and long hrs and i'm ok with that as long as I can get a decent gym membership there.
I'm hoping to be able to live with my gf there once I find an apt to rent, so it won't be a problem seeing her daily, and whatever days I get off we can hang out together.
Aside from the Visa the language is a problem since I've only learned greetings so far in Japanese, so I need to learn a lot more, but I also have to sign up for the TEFL course next month too.
I'm open to trying a new place and a new life while i'm still relatively young, I know for sure I wouldn't be thinking about it if I was in my 40's already, no offense to older fellows.
I'm lucky I will have a gf there and maybe wife, so I really don't want to spend time there "dating" j-girls, i'd rather just travel and visit the sites, cities, learn Japanese and enjoy the daily life.

I first went to Japan in 1987, I worked for a very large Japanese multinational then. I spent all of 1989 in Japan. I lerarned to speak and a little writing then. I visiyed regularly till 2000. I went to another company and worked in a different Asian country, and in 2004 I went back to live again. I am president of the company in Japan, its owned by my company in Europe, its automotive.

Yes I cant get used to people on boards like this thinking all people in a particular nationality are the same. Of course they do have some traits that link them through culturalisation in the main culture in Japan was not formed by sexual guilt (unlike Christianity, Islam and Judaism) and they don't have the same hang ups.
I spent 25 years in the Navy and visited many places around the world including Japan (on more than one occasion). I found many Japanese girls to be quite reserved and formal at first. On one occasion we invited about 20 Japanese girls onto the ship for a social they were all working in a local company in Kobe.. They turned up with one older lady (over 40)for every two younger ones. Chaperones seemed to be quite common on dates. But the girls were great fun (for the social they had all dressed in tartan mini skirts ) and a few relationships did develop during the visit. In short we had a great time but just like any were those who treat the girls with respect fared best.

You make an accurate point here, and what should be quite obvious too. Unfortunately, a man who watches Japanese porn and then goes to Japan for the first time is at risk of thinking what happens in porn is the same as real life. Hence, Japanese people treat him as if he's some annoying foreigner.

Also, it's well known that men go to Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, etc just to pick up girls or even exploit them. which inevitably gives Western men a bad name. So yeah, if anyone is going to Asia, treat the women with respect and make a better name for Western people.

Ive been to Japan 3 times for short vacations and each time hooked up with randoms from bars and the subway -- regular, everyday girls. With one I even spent 3 days staying at her apt. And yes I even had girls approach me while i was shopping showing very deliberate interest. But then again I am tall, fit and devilishly handsome

And btw, i live in Korea and this type of thing has NEVER happened there. Sure Ive had my share of Kgirls but it takes work and a very specific approach. Japan is indeed unique in this department.
