Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) -- Move over ACTA
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2012/02/beyond-acta-next-secret-copyright-agreement-negotiated-this-weekin-hollywood.ars
Yet another stupid "secret" Hollywood funded/sponsored agreement. Supposedly this is possibly worse than ACTA. And the one being written/drafted now that hasn't been leaked will be worse than TPP, then one will be worse than that and so on and so on. It seems like these assholes don't care to learn. |

See, ACTA, though bad, never aimed to go beyond US law.
This agreement/treaty/or whatever will go beyond what US law can do. And why are people saying ACTA is European? America is the one pushing it, funded by Hollywood. No surprise. If Europe drafted it, why now sign it? People are celebrating Europe agreed to sign it as well. If they created it it should have been given they'd sign it and they should have been the first to sign. Not behind a few dozen countries. And ACTA isn't new, ACTA is about as old as long as I've known Keibear. About 5-6 years. |

The article mentions something of "buffer" copies being covered in the TPP Act but none of us have any way of knowing what's going on because it's secret business between the fat cats and the government. And by business, I mean, a product (an Act of law) in exchange for money.
Hopefully, Europe will turn down ACTA. Unfortunately, if they're anything like Britain, they are too computer illiterate and out of touch with the world around them that they'll just suck up to America. The only reason the UK would say no to this bullshit is if not signing the treaty saves money. Still, if Big Content gets its own way and the only way to access their stuff is to pay for it, people will simply not want it. Why pay extortionate prices for trash that you can't watch or listen to in the format and manner you want? What will they do next, introduce a Big Content Licence that requires all internet users to pay else get a $1,000 fine just as with the British TV Licence? I have a feeling that Big Content and its poor business model is hitting the buffers and making its final desperate attempts to stay afloat.

That's the thing, ACTA isn't live yet, and it's not done having countries agree and sign it, yet they're working on something worse that does more? And I bet they're working on something now much worse than the TPP Agreement will be.
